This is a unique opportunity to pursue a PhD in Virtual Reality and 3D data processing as part of an esteemed National Industry PhD Program. The project involves developing a Virtual Reality experience that enables participants to move freely in a 3D scanned environment with real actors adjusting themselves in relation to the participant's position and actions.

The research aims to create more immersive and interactive VR experiences based on scanned real-world scenarios. This will be achieved by:

  • Developing software for representing 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) radiance fields on commercial VR headsets.
  • Scanning and importing real-world scenes and actors into 3DGS environments.
  • Using Generative AI to animate actors within the 3DGS environment for high-fidelity rendering in real-time motion and response to learner interactions.

Applicants should have a research-oriented Master's degree with associated publications in high-ranking journals and/or conferences. They must meet entry requirements for a PhD degree at the University of Technology Sydney and ideally have a strong background in 3D visualization and virtual reality.
