About the Role

The Senior Chief Financial Officer is a pivotal position within the Ministry of Health, responsible for leading financial management with the highest standards of integrity. This role ensures compliance with directives from the Executive Financial Officer, legislation, and the Office of Comptroller General.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute financial strategies to promote accountability and innovation.
  • Oversee a budget of over $32 billion and manage branch operations in financial operations, accounting, audits, and investigations.
  • Ensure Ministry programs and health authorities have the financial support they need to care for British Columbians.
Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • A professional accounting designation (e.g. CPA).
  • A university degree in Business Administration, Commerce, or related discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 5 years experience in senior financial management and administration in a large organization (budget of $1 Billion, and/or 200+ staff).
  • Experience managing a large and diverse group of professional and clerical staff, including developing and evaluating performance goals, coaching, team building, and mentoring.
  • Experience planning, leading, and organizing operational activities and complex or large projects.
  • Experience communicating with senior officials (e.g. written, presentation, and interpersonal) on complex issues for decision.
Preferred Qualifications

Preference may be given to candidates with:

  • More than five years of related experience in the past ten years.
  • A post-graduate degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Finance, or related discipline.
  • Relevant experience working in the public sector.
  • Relevant experience working in the health sector.
  • Preference may also be given to applicants who identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Métis, or Inuit).
