Research Scientist in Quantum Chemistry

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Research Scientist to join our team. This is a part-time (0.9FTE) fixed-term position for one year, offering the opportunity to play a pivotal role in an industry-funded project.

This project aims to establish a workflow for high-throughput generation of accurate ab initio reference benchmarks using advanced quantum chemistry methods.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Developing Automated Workflows: Utilise Python scripting to automate job preparation, submission, analysis, and visualisation for high-throughput quantum chemistry calculations.
  • Conducting Accurate Calculations: Perform accurate wavefunction calculations on high-performance computer clusters to generate ab initio reference benchmarks.
  • Collaborating and Publishing: Work closely with the industry partner, analyse data, and contribute to the preparation of research publications and grant applications.
  • Supervising Students: Participate in the supervision and mentoring of research students within the group.
  • Contributing to Research: Conduct internationally competitive research in theoretical quantum chemistry, resulting in publications in reputable journals.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Possess a PhD (or near completion) in Theoretical Quantum Chemistry or a related discipline.
  • Have experience in developing and/or applying quantum-chemical wavefunction methods to molecular systems.
  • Demonstrate an aptitude for research with a sound publication record commensurate with experience.
  • Possess excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills in English.
  • Exhibit strong organisational skills and the ability to meet deadlines and complete projects.
  • Have expertise in machine learning and/or programming (highly desirable).
