Environmental Approvals and Compliance Specialist

Atlas Iron, an Australian owned iron ore company, operates in Western Australia's Pilbara Region. Our diverse operations include Mt Webber, Sanjiv Ridge, Miralga Creek, and the new McPhee Creek site. To support our expanding activities, we seek an experienced environmental professional to join our growing team.
The primary objective of this role is to provide technical expertise in securing environmental approvals across all Atlas Iron operations. This full-time position will be a maximum term contract until June 2026.
- Develop and maintain primary and secondary environmental approvals documents.
- Provide technical advice on regulatory environmental requirements and compliance matters.
This role reports directly to the Specialist Approvals and Compliance team. Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting the development, maintenance, and execution of environmental approval documents across all Atlas sites.
- Undertaking Environmental Impact Assessments to identify potential risks and provide mitigation strategies.
- Representing Atlas Iron in external engagements related to environmental and compliance matters.
- Maintaining project schedules and budgets to ensure timely completion within allocated resources.
- Supporting the Environment team in meeting environmental legal obligations and commitments, including regulatory reporting and monitoring.
- Coordinating environmental contractors across various Atlas sites.
- Promoting environmental awareness, assessment, and management processes throughout the organization.
- Offering technical expertise and staying up-to-date with industry best practices, standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Reviewing and maintaining environmental management and compliance documentation.
- Supporting mine closure planning to align with regulatory requirements.
- Contributing to the Environmental Management System by developing comprehensive environmental plans and procedures.
About You
We are seeking a dynamic individual with excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. The successful candidate will have:
- A degree in Environmental Science or a related field.
- At least two years of experience in approvals and compliance within the resources sector.
- Relevant knowledge of environmental legislation and regulations.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
- A collaborative approach with a focus on delivering business outcomes.
- Knowledge of environmental baseline assessment requirements.
- Experience working in a team-oriented environment.
