About the Role:

This is a senior-level position that oversees the entire steel fabrication construction process, ensuring timely and budget-friendly delivery of projects while exceeding client expectations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • You will be responsible for providing expert advice and guidance to the team on all aspects of structural steel management.
  • End-to-end management of structural steel processes, from engagement to shipping, ensuring compliance with quality standards and regulations.
  • Implementation and monitoring of quality management systems, including inspection test plans and load calculations to meet design intent and Australian safety standards.
  • Review of structural designs to ensure completeness and collaboration with structural engineers on technical matters.
  • Understanding and application of Universal Beam (UB), Universal Column (UC), Built-up Plate steel construction, and Australian standards (e.g., AS 1554).
  • Overseeing proper testing of major weld points during fabrication and ensuring the use of appropriate welding techniques.
  • Familiarity with third-party testing requirements (Ultrasonic Testing (UT), Magnetic Particle Test (MT), plate testing) and various steel grade members.
  • Knowledge of blasting and paint requirements (i.e. Class 1 and 2 Painting).
  • Documented certificates and warranties are ensured.
  • Collaboration with the project team and provision of input to project planning and program outcomes.
  • Support for design managers in providing feedback and ensuring design timelines and milestones are met.
  • Ensuring designs are fit for purpose, fully coordinated, and compliant with contractual obligations.

About You:

  • A valid driver's license and current passport are required due to frequent travel locally and internationally.
  • Ideal candidates will have a background in structural steel and experience in a management role, with a solid understanding of relevant codes and regulations.
  • Bachelor of Engineering or equivalent qualification with at least 5+ years of experience in similar roles within the construction industry.
  • Experience in establishing construction systems, processes, and procedures.
  • Compliance with environmental regulatory requirements.
  • Familiarity with statutory regulations and Australian Standards.
  • Proficiency in management reporting, presentation, and problem-solving with attention to detail.
  • A proactive approach to resolving issues and excellent attention to detail.
  • Intermediate MS Office skills.
  • Proficiency in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and Tekla software.
  • Flexibility in working hours and willingness to travel.
  • Construction White Card.
