The University of Queensland is seeking a highly skilled Data Scientist to join our team. As a key member of the Innovation Pathways group, you will work closely with the Lead Data Scientist and Innovation Pathways Lead to deliver innovative, high-quality results that drive business insights.
As a Data Scientist, you will be responsible for sourcing and analyzing data, generating business insights, creating value, and driving evidence-based decisions. Your expertise in data science approaches will enable you to develop and implement statistical analysis plans, engineer raw data into analysis-ready format, and deploy statistical and machine learning models in the cloud.
You will also manage complex large-scale datasets, ensuring best-practice data governance and fulfilling ethical obligations. Additionally, you will develop and deploy data visualization tools and dashboard solutions, ensuring high standards of user/customer experience.
Your role will involve providing statistical consulting, identifying data needs, and working with stakeholders to identify requirements for customer insights, innovation, and commercialization. You will also contribute to project publications, including reports, scholarly manuscripts, and industry presentations.
Key Responsibilities- Engineer, prototype, validate, and deploy statistical and machine learning models using R and Python programming languages
- Develop and conduct complex statistical analysis plans for research studies, applying techniques such as regression, text mining, topic modeling, sentiment analysis, and choice modeling
- Build comprehensive data repositories through integrating individual data sets, including primary and secondary data
- Manage complex large-scale datasets, ensuring best-practice data governance and fulfilling ethical obligations
- Develop and deploy data visualization tools and dashboard solutions, ensuring high standards of user/customer experience
To succeed in this role, you will need:
- A PhD or master's qualification in Data Science or a related field (such as statistics and computer science, business, management, and marketing)
- Experience and knowledge of data science approaches to drive evidence-based business decision-making
- Expertise in collecting, investigating, manipulating, and analyzing complex datasets using R and Python programming languages, as well as visualization tools such as Shiny dashboards and Plotly
- Advanced knowledge of statistical analysis and machine learning techniques, including natural language processing, predictive modeling, and multivariate analysis
- Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and execute a diverse program of work, effectively managing projects and tasks
