Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Energy Market Analyst to join our team in Melbourne or Morwell. As an Energy Market Analyst, you will play a key role in delivering analysis, insights, and advice to support decision-making across the organisation's market-facing functions, including wholesale market operations and energy retailing.

  • You will apply your deep market knowledge and critical thinking to analyse trends within the Australian energy landscape, providing valuable insights that shape our strategic direction.
  • You will also contribute to the development of robust tools and systems that deliver data-driven insights to support initiatives across the organisation.
Your Key Responsibilities
  1. Develop and maintain short-term probabilistic forecasts, long-term market capacity expansion models, and asset dispatch optimisation models.
  2. Work with the team to improve the organisation, interpretation, and presentation of market data from various sources.
  3. Conduct due diligence on prospective investments and inform regular valuations of existing assets & contracts.
  4. Support the team in developing alternative views of the energy transition pathway through scenario planning and analysis.
Requirements
  • Tertiary qualifications in Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Economics, Finance, or a related field (Honours/Advanced qualifications desirable).
  • 3+ years' experience in the Australian energy market, with exposure to wholesale markets, renewable energy, energy retailing, financial markets, or trading systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret data and models to generate actionable insights.
  • Proficient in data processing and workflow development using Python, R, SQL, or similar programming languages.
  • Skilled in developing analytical and reporting tools using Advanced Excel, PowerBI, and/or Tableau.
