Mechanical Systems Specialist

Key Responsibilities
- Develop, optimise, and execute maintenance strategies for key mechanical equipment, including gas turbines, reciprocating engines.
- Provide technical expertise to troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issues in power generation and transmission systems, including pumps, compressors, turbines, and ancillary equipment.
- Lead and participate in failure investigations, conduct root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Ensure that maintenance work is planned and prioritised effectively to maintain asset reliability.
- Support capital projects by contributing to design, specification, and commissioning phases for mechanical systems across Energy Operations.
- Ensure all maintenance and engineering activities are compliant with Australian Standards, safety regulations, and Fortescue's internal safety guidelines.
- Identify opportunities to improve mechanical reliability, reduce maintenance costs, and enhance operational efficiency.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, or a relevant trade qualification with extensive field experience with turbines or gas reciprocating engines.
- WA Class C Driver's License.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in mechanical maintenance and reliability in power generation, heavy industry, or mining environments.
- Strong knowledge of gas turbines, reciprocating engines, pumps, compressors, and other mechanical systems commonly used in power generation and transmission.
- Experience with root cause analysis methodologies, asset management principles, and maintenance strategy development.
- Software Proficiency: Familiarity with CMMS (e.g., SAP).
- Familiarity with planning processes and procurement processes.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, capable of effectively liaising with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
