About the Role

The successful candidate will provide safety, technical, and risk expertise to meet NSW Government's responsibilities under various acts and regulations.

Duties will include:

  • Ensuring safety risks align with public expectations by reviewing audits, management systems, incident investigations, and setting regulatory priorities.
  • Collaborating with asset owners and industry committees to promote compliance, support standards development, participate in research, and contribute to industry guidelines.
  • Providing technical input into programs related to renewable gases, including hydrogen and biomethane.


About the Team

The Pipeline and Gas Networks (P&GN) team within the Energy Operations branch of the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water is a unique team at the forefront of the gas and future fuels space in NSW.

The team has several core functions including safety and technical regulation of gas networks, pipelines, licensing, surveying, and corrosion protection.


About You

The ideal candidate will have tertiary qualifications in engineering or a trade qualification in plumbing or gas fitting, with experience in the utilities industry.

You should have sound knowledge of design principles, construction, operation, and maintenance of pipelines and gas networks, as well as effective communication skills.

The successful candidate will also have exposure to incident or compliance investigations and auditing activities.


Key Knowledge and Experience

The role requires demonstrated experience in one or more areas including knowledge of gas network and pipeline construction, operation, maintenance, and safety, awareness of relevant standards and legislative frameworks, and experience within the gas or liquids industries.


Estimated Salary Range: AU$120,000 - AU$150,000 per annum
