The Role
We are seeking an experienced Intellectual Property Manager to lead the management and protection of our intellectual property portfolio.
This role is vital in ensuring the industry adoption and commercial success of our technology innovations.
You will work closely with internal stakeholders, external patent attorneys, and researchers to oversee IP strategy, legal compliance, and commercialisation pathways.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide Strategic IP Advice: Offer expert guidance to our leadership team on IP management, ensuring alignment with commercial objectives.
- IP Portfolio Management: Oversee patent, trademark, and PBR portfolios, including registrations, maintenance, and compliance.
- Collaboration with External Partners: Work with external patent attorneys on drafting, prosecution, and IP-related legal matters.
- Contract Negotiation: Support contract negotiations for R&D agreements and strategic funding partnerships.
- IP Education and Training: Develop and deliver IP education programs for our staff.
- Budget Management: Manage IP budgets and reporting, ensuring cost-effective strategies.
- Team Supervision: Supervise and mentor our IP and Commercialisation Project Officer.
Requirements
- A relevant tertiary qualification in an IP-related discipline and a degree in Science, supplemented by postgraduate qualifications.
- Qualified Patent Attorney status (or successful completion of subjects towards qualification).
- Proven experience in intellectual property management, particularly within biosciences, agriculture, or research-based environments.
- Strong knowledge of IP law, commercialisation processes, and strategic portfolio management.
- Ability to work collaboratively with researchers, business development teams, and external stakeholders.
- Excellent project planning, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
