Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced trade mark lawyer or attorney to join our Intellectual Property & Technology team in Sydney.

The successful candidate will work under the leadership of Tim Webb, Dean Gerakiteys, and Brett Doyle, providing strategic commercial advice on matters concerning trade mark law.

This is a unique opportunity for a specialist trade mark lawyer or attorney looking to advance their career in a leading IP-focused practice.

About the Team

Our Intellectual Property & Technology team is one of Australia's largest and most experienced specialist groups, with expertise spanning diverse industries such as fast-moving consumer goods, government agencies, telcos, television networks, content providers, automotive companies, private equity firms, banks, pharmaceutical companies, sporting bodies, online service providers, print and digital publishers, and IT software and equipment suppliers.

As part of our team, you will have the chance to work with and learn from recognized practitioners advising a range of clients with diverse needs.

Job Description

The key responsibilities of this role include:

  • Providing trade mark services and advice on registration and enforcement issues across various industry sectors
  • Advising on the adoption of new brands and re-branding strategies, including clearance searches
  • Acting on trade mark applications, preparing submissions, and responding to official reports issued by IP Australia
  • Assisting in the management of international trade mark portfolios
  • Preparing and managing oppositions and non-use actions, drafting evidence, and instructing counsel
  • Drafting co-existence and licence agreements
  • Providing advice on IP aspects of due diligence and related corporate transactions

Requirements

To be considered for this position, you should have:

  • A minimum of 5 years' experience working in a trade mark attorney firm or an IP practice with substantial focus on trade marks
  • A sound knowledge of trade mark law and practice
  • A strong conviction that your career will be advanced by providing strategic commercial advice on matters concerning trade mark law
  • Experience using Improtech software and databases would be advantageous
