Job Title: Manager Environment Sustainability

Wagga Wagga City Council is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Manager Environment Sustainability to lead the implementation of Council's Net Zero 2040 Strategy. The successful candidate will work closely with other areas of Council, external stakeholders, and other levels of government to drive sustainability initiatives that will contribute to the future of our community.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and engage the Environment Sustainability team to achieve the best organisational and community outcomes in relation to service delivery and responsible financial management.
  • Drive ESG strategies, practices, and reporting in line with legislative requirements and industry best practice to manage emerging risks and opportunities for local government.
  • Develop and review environmental, circular economy, sustainability, and climate change strategies, operational and implementation plans, amendments to Council's planning instruments, development guidelines, and other policies.
  • Maintain knowledge of new and emerging opportunities and best practice in sustainability approaches, innovations, and tools or changes in legislative requirements that enables Council to achieve its goals more effectively.
  • Manage the responsible management and monitoring of Council-owned contaminated land and compliance with responsibilities under various legislation, including statutory licensing and reporting requirements.
Requirements:
  • Tertiary qualifications relevant to the role in environmental science, sustainability, natural resource management, planning, or a related discipline and proven experience in a similar leadership position.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, including the ability to develop and maintain a positive team culture, effectively manage staff performance, and identify and nurture talent.
  • Substantial knowledge, understanding, and experience relevant to the role, including sustainability sector, environmental services and programs, and highly developed communication and interpersonal skills.
