About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Java Game Developer to join our team at Spawnpoint Media, a leading media production company specializing in gaming and Minecraft content. As a Java Game Developer, you will work closely with our Minecraft Set Designers and Java Developers to bring YouTube scripts and storyboards to life in an interactive and exciting way through custom Minecraft Mods.

Key Responsibilities
  • Program and compile Minecraft: Java Edition mods, following a provided YouTube Script, incorporating custom blocks, items, mobs, entities, UI, commands, and gameplay features.
  • Collaborate with our Set Design team to create mods that aid and assist them in bringing scripts to life efficiently and practically.
  • Work with Modelers to bring your code and gameplay mechanics to life.
  • Develop mods that are visually and functionally appealing to our core audience, primarily young children.
Requirements
  • Proficient in Java programming language.
  • Experience in Minecraft Modding either Forge or Fabric.
  • Full understanding of Minecraft and all game mechanics.
  • Ability to translate design ideas into functional game code, troubleshoot code, and fix bugs.
  • Understanding of technical documentation and ability to navigate and read through it to advance one's understanding of the subject matter and/or resolve bugs.
  • Ability to meet and understand deadlines and act on feedback.
Preferred Additional Skills
  • Understanding of JSON files and ability to create or edit one (loot tables, tags, etc).
  • Experience working in Java Edition/Datapacks/1.17+ Command Syntax/NBT data.
  • Understanding of basic Minecraft-related development terms, such as entity, datapack, addon, behaviors, components, function, animation controllers, etc.
  • Understanding of basic programming logic/design (scoreboard loops, execute if's, operators, etc).
  • Familiarity with Blockbench (or Cubik Studio/some other modeling program).
  • Familiarity with Aseprite, Photoshop, or some other form of editing software.
