Mental Health Disability Ageing and Rehabilitation Service (MHDAS) provides integrated and recovery-oriented mental health, drugs, and alcohol assessment, treatment, and community support to people of all ages within the Barwon region experiencing or at risk of experiencing mental health and drug & alcohol issues, and their families.

We have developed excellent partnerships with the local community that provide for seamless integrated care for our clients. MHDAS is entering a new phase of co-design of our service system with people who access our services and our wider community.

This will build on our nationally recognized unique cultural approach to the challenges of recovery-oriented service delivery to redesign our service system. Our major sites include University Hospital Geelong in Geelong's CBD, the McKellar Centre precinct in North Geelong, Barwon Health North in Norlane, and residential aged care facilities spanning the region.

We deliver comprehensive mental health, community health, and dental services through various programs across the Barwon Southwest Region, including Torquay and Colac. The Aged Psychiatry Service (APS) is situated at the McKellar Mental Health and Wellbeing Centre and provides continuing care services for consumers aged 65 and over with existing complex mental illness and those who develop a mental illness later in life.

We provide specialist psychiatric assessment, risk assessment, treatment, and case management for aged consumers experiencing mental illness. The APS Team provides psychiatric services to consumers aged 65 and above in a wide range of settings, including community, consultation-liaison, residential aged care facilities, and old-aged inpatient units.

This means we can offer psychiatrists with career opportunities and working arrangements that suit their individual circumstances and professional goals. Key requirements of the role include:

  • Providing leadership in the provision of high-quality psychiatric services to consumers
  • Acting as a delegate of the authorised Psychiatrist as defined in the Mental Health Act 2022 and contributing to the Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement Program of the service

The successful candidate will hold the FRANZCP, be accredited as a supervisor by the RANZCP, and be registered with general or specialist medical registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency. Experience and interest in working in Old Aged Psychiatry are essential, and an Advanced Certificate for Old Aged Psychiatry is highly desirable.
