Academic Leadership in Speech Pathology Education

We are seeking an experienced speech pathology academic to provide leadership and excellence in teaching and research. This position will contribute to developing the Master of Speech and Language Pathology course, undertake research aligned with the Department of Linguistics and Faculty of Medicine, Health and Human Sciences.

  • This role offers a unique opportunity for an experienced academic to engage in world-leading scholarship, leveraging their strengths and collaborating with relevant stakeholders.

The successful candidate will have knowledge, skills and attributes that enable leadership in speech pathology education and research. They will have a sustained track record of delivering high-quality education in courses/programs accredited by Speech Pathology Australia, including evidence of curriculum design that fosters students' development of competency in speech pathology practice.

  • They will be able to provide intellectual, practical and cultural leadership in research, with a strong track record of aligned scholarly outputs and recognition.

The ideal candidate will have been awarded a PhD, and may hold other qualifications relevant for their area(s) of teaching and research expertise. They will have a well-defined track record of scholarship focusing on individuals and communities who have communication and/or swallowing needs.

The Department of Linguistics hosts the Master of Speech and Language Pathology and the MQ Health Speech and Hearing Clinic. The Department delivers outstanding education in linguistics via the Bachelor of Speech and Hearing Sciences course, and postgraduate professional courses in translation and interpreting, applied linguistics and TESOL, audiology, and speech pathology.

  • It conducts world-leading basic science research on language, hearing, and communication, contributing to the development of speech pathologists who can employ a social perspective on health and implement evidence-based approaches to optimising communication and swallowing.

The Macquarie Master of Speech and Language Pathology develops speech pathologists who can apply theories of language and communication to speech pathology practice with communication disability, and its distinctive education about linguistic diversity.

  • The MQ Health Speech and Hearing Clinic provides a comprehensive range of speech pathology and audiology services across the lifespan, offering high-quality speech pathology and audiology services to the community and excellent clinical education for students.
