Job Title: Collection Branch Professional

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to join our team as a Collection Branch Officer.

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic and collaborative environment where you will play a critical role in developing and making accessible the National Library's collection.

The successful candidate will be responsible for undertaking complex procedural, administrative and service-related tasks that may involve:

  • Collection Management roles: undertake tasks relating to the processing of collection material including item or collection level description and enhancement for all collection formats.
  • Collect and Acquire roles: action collection acquisition decisions across all streams of collecting - published and archival, in either physical or digital format.
  • Curatorial and Collection Research roles: make decisions on planning, selecting, assessing and appraising, and commissioning material for acquisition.
  • Rights Management roles: make decisions on rights, including copyright, privacy issues and indigenous cultural rights.

Experience in library and archive work and an understanding of contemporary acquisition, description and conservation principles would be an advantage.

Key responsibilities include:

Collection Management

• Undertake tasks relating to the processing of collection material including item or collection level description and enhancement for all collection formats.

Curatorial and Collection Research

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

A strong understanding of the importance of cultural sensitivity and respect for Indigenous knowledge and cultures would be highly regarded.
