Role Overview

We are seeking an Associate to join our Financing & Advisory Group in Sydney, Australia, to support the origination and execution of structured finance transactions in the Mining, Metals, and related industries. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to build close relationships with our teams onshore and globally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and maintain financial models for advisory mandates, including creating and running financial scenarios and sensitivities.
  • Interrogate financial models for financing mandates, including creating and running sensitivities and checking integrity.
  • Review and supervise financial modelling tasks undertaken by junior staff and complete complex modelling tasks as required.
  • Stay up-to-date with sector developments, particularly in Mining & Metals finance, and current market transactions and opportunities.
  • Provide day-to-day transaction support, including structuring, pricing, preparing credit applications, and undertaking detailed financial analyses and due diligence.
  • Respect all relevant compliance practices and internal requirements in relation to advisory & lending transactions.
  • Manage internal processes related to arranging and advisory business, including updating databases and completing relevant internal system-based processes.
  • Identify potential marketing opportunities and prepare pitch material, including reviewing feasibility studies and detailed financial model analysis.
  • Establish a network of contacts at key clients and prospective clients.
  • Supervise and develop junior team members, including delegating tasks and reviewing their work.

Requirements

  • University degree in a relevant discipline, such as Finance, Engineering, Business, Commerce, or Law, or a professional financial qualification.
  • Postgraduate qualifications considered favorably.
  • Experience in Mining & Metals finance and sector knowledge, or another structured finance environment utilizing similar tools, processes, and procedures.
  • 3-5 years' relevant experience.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including strong financial modelling abilities.
  • Experience in generating pitch material that is clear, structured, compelling, and comprehensive in addressing clients' needs.
  • Strong numerical skills with an advanced understanding of accounting concepts, financial statements, and cashflows.
  • Ability to contribute to the team's efforts to build and maintain trusted client relationships.
  • Consistency and rigour in following up on clients' needs and acting on team priorities.
  • Discipline and team collaboration to develop business adapted to clients' and markets' needs.
  • Prioritise tasks and manage competing deadlines to deliver on team priorities.
  • Experience working with people from diverse, international backgrounds and acting on team priorities.

Functinal Relationships

Internal: staff from business divisions and support functions locally, regionally, and globally. External: clients, prospects, and external advisors (lenders, legal counsel, technical consultants).
