About this opportunity

As a critical member of our Pact Packaging team, the Operator role plays a vital part in ensuring the efficient operation of our 24/5 recycling facility. Reporting directly to the Shift Leader, you will be responsible for maintaining the highest standards of WHSE (Work Health and Safety) and quality, while also contributing to a culture of continuous improvement.


Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Ensure the smooth operation of the wash line and sorter, identifying and escalating any issues promptly to the Shift Leader or Maintenance team as required.
  • Comply with WHSE procedures and directions at all times, working towards Goal Zero and contributing to a safe working environment for yourself and your colleagues.
  • Participate in regular BOPs (Business Operation Plans), risk assessments, and incident reporting to ensure the facility remains safe and compliant.
  • Provide relevant licenses and permits to supervisors as required.
  • Actively engage in all company training on quality policies and procedures, upholding those standards at all times and contributing to a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Contribute to product quality through inspection and testing, working closely with your team to ensure the highest standards are met.
  • Communicate effectively with the oncoming shift team, sharing relevant information to maintain a safe and efficient working environment.
  • Perform regular housekeeping of your workstation and ensure a clean and tidy environment at the end of each shift.
  • Be an active member of the operations team, contributing to a positive and collaborative work environment.

Your skills and experience

To be successful in this role, you will possess:



  • A minimum of 2 years' experience in a 24/5 operation, preferably in post-consumer plastics recycling or a related field.
  • Superior communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated experience in working within a culture of continuous improvement and actively contributing to process enhancements.
  • Experience working in highly automated facilities, utilizing the latest technology to drive efficiency and productivity.
  • A proven track record of delivering change in complex environments and understanding when to escalate to management.
  • A 'roll-up-the-sleeves' attitude, with the ability to engage and work harmoniously with peers to drive results.
  • A strong, collaborative communicator, able to build relationships effectively and present ideas openly.
  • Able to work within a team environment, contributing to a positive and collaborative work environment.
