Indigenous Family Liaison Officer Role

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team as an Indigenous Family Liaison Officer. This role is critical in providing support to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people faced with family breakdown and accessing various services provided by the Court.

About the Role

The successful candidate will provide in-Court support to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people, explaining the importance of attending and participating in Court hearings. They will also assist litigants to file documents, attend Court Children's Service events, and connect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander litigants to legal and other community-based services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide emotional and practical support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander identifying litigants in family law matters.
  • Explain court processes and requirements to litigants in a clear and concise manner.
  • Assist litigants with filing documents and navigating the Court system.
  • Attend Court Children's Service events to support litigants and other significant persons.
  • Connect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander litigants to relevant services and resources.
Engagement with Local Community

The successful candidate will engage with the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community and support agencies to raise awareness of the role of the Courts in family law matters.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A strong understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and histories.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Familiarity with the Court system and relevant legislation.
