About the Role:
Southpaws Specialty, Emergency & Referral Hospital is seeking a dedicated In-Patient Care Nurse to join our team as part of our surgery department. This unique role focuses on delivering exceptional preoperative and postoperative care to our hospitalised surgery patients, making it a crucial part of our patient-centred approach.
Key Responsibilities:
- Attend morning handover and listen to updates on surgery inpatients.
- Review and note any changes in patient charts during rounds.
- Assist with tasks for surgery inpatients, including radiographs, blood work, and sedation.
- Communicate patient concerns or status changes to the case owner.
- Prioritise care for current hospitalised patients, ensuring timely medication and treatment.
- Assist with new admissions, including labelling cages and starting IVs.
- Support diagnostics and minor procedures, such as x-rays and dressing changes.
- Maintain a clean and organised ward environment, including patient cages and supplies.
- Prepare patients for discharge, ensuring they are clean and all equipment is properly removed or placed.
Requirements:
- Certificate IV or equivalent qualification.
- 3-4 years' experience in a similar role.
- Professional and positive demeanour.
- Ability to work efficiently with initiative in a fast-paced environment.
- Exceptional organisational skills.
- Extensive knowledge and understanding of veterinary nursing procedures.
- Proficiency in monitoring anaesthesia.
- Ability to work a rotating roster including a weekend rotation and on call.
