We are seeking a skilled Trials Technician to join our Applied Science team in Melbourne, Victoria. The successful candidate will support our Defence portfolios T&E work in shock testing of naval equipment, with opportunities to drive expansion into new T&E capabilities.
Key Responsibilities- Management and maintenance of specialist test apparatus and instrumentation systems.
- Support to management of workshop / warehouse facility.
- Fabrication of fixtures for use during testing programs.
- Development and updating of safe operating procedures and risk assessments for activities conducted in the workshop and during offsite testing activities.
- Set-up, monitoring and triggering instrumentation during testing activities.
- A minimum of a TAFE Cert III/IV in a relevant discipline (e.g. mechanical or instrumentation) or qualified as a Marine Technician (or similar) in the Australian Defence Force.
- Experience in fabrication (machining and welding of metal) is highly desirable.
- Experience in a test and evaluation role is desirable but not essential as training will be provided.
- Experience in the use of data acquisition systems is desirable but not essential as training will be provided.
- Basic drafting experience is desirable but not essential.
- A willingness to enhance their skills through on-the-job learning.
- The ability to travel to support off-site test and evaluation activities.
- Applicants must be an Australian Citizen and be eligible to obtain and maintain an Australian Government Negative Vetting Level 1 security clearance.
