PhD Scholarship in Anthropology of Hydrogen Futures
This PhD scholarship is part of an ARC-funded project, Hydrogen Hub Futures, led by Dr Kari Dahlgren. The project aims to critically examine the emerging hydrogen industry in Australia and its impact on regional communities.
The successful applicant will join the research team and contribute to the wider project, undertaking their own distinct PhD project. The project may involve extended ethnographic fieldwork in an Australian community identified as a potential hydrogen hub or exploring broader issues associated with the hydrogen sector.
As a PhD researcher at Monash University, you will be part of a diverse and vibrant research culture, led by internationally recognised scholars. You will have access to funding to support fieldwork, travel, and conference attendance.
The successful applicant will have an excellent academic track record in Social Science, with experience in anthropology, human geography, or other closely related fields. Proficiency in qualitative research methods, especially ethnographic methods, and an understanding or interest in energy transitions or industrial decarbonisation are desirable.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct ethnographic research in communities identified as potential future hydrogen hubs
- Explore local aspirations and ensure that the industry addresses the unique needs and desires of the communities involved
- Contribute to the wider project and participate in research workshops
Requirements:
- Australian (or equivalent international) Honour's or Master's degree in a relevant field, with a significant research component and first-class honours/H1 awarded
- English-language proficiency skills
- Full-time enrollment and on-campus attendance
