About the Role

This is an Identified role which requires meeting two criteria: an understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and the ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.

As the Chief Executive Officer, you will be responsible for representing and advocating IBA's interests in all relevant public and private forums as required by the Board, providing advice and support to the Chair and the Board as needed, ensuring that IBA's business is conducted in accordance with the ATSI Act and the PGPA Act.

You will also be responsible for the development, implementation, and management of IBA's business plan, human resources policies and procedures, risk assessment, reporting, and management processes, as well as coordinating IBA's annual reporting obligations under the ATSI Act and other Commonwealth legislation.

The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of, and sensitivity to, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, with experience in leading large workforces across dispersed locations, working with advisory boards and boards of directors, and overseeing executive teams, organisational budgets, and annual report obligations similar in nature and size to IBA.

Key Responsibilities
  • Representing and advocating IBA's interests in all relevant public and private forums as required by the Board
  • Providing advice and support to the Chair and the Board as needed
  • Ensuring that IBA's business is conducted in accordance with the ATSI Act and the PGPA Act
  • Developing, implementing, and managing IBA's business plan, human resources policies and procedures, risk assessment, reporting, and management processes
  • Coordinating IBA's annual reporting obligations under the ATSI Act and other Commonwealth legislation
Requirements

An estimated salary range of $180,000 - $250,000 per annum, depending on experience, is available for this position.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and make informed decisions
  • A deep understanding of the challenges facing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and a commitment to driving positive change
  • Experience working in a culturally sensitive environment, with a strong appreciation for the importance of reconciliation and cultural awareness
