About the Role

The Food and Pharmaceutical Division at ALS is seeking a skilled Laboratory Technician - Microbiologist to join our Microbiology team in Melbourne. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for processing food, pharmaceutical, and water samples for microbiological analysis, ensuring samples are analyzed within holding times, and maintaining a safe and efficient laboratory environment.

The Day-to-Day

  • Process food, pharmaceutical, and water samples for microbiological analysis.
  • Ensure samples are analyzed within holding times.
  • Weigh and check samples.
  • Work in a fast-paced environment with a focus on accuracy.
  • Blend food samples.
  • Complete paperwork.
  • Ensure client turnaround times are met.
  • Maintain a safe and efficient laboratory environment.
  • Perform daily ad hoc tasks.

The Essentials

  • Minimum of a laboratory certificate or Diploma in Microbiology.
  • Ability to handle raw poultry, meat, and fish in sample preparation on a daily basis.
  • Willingness to undertake reasonable overtime as required.
  • Involved in daily housekeeping of the laboratory.
  • Strong commitment to client service.
  • Ability to work well in a team-oriented environment.
  • Good communication and organizational skills.
  • Dedication to good laboratory practices with regard to quality of results and health and safety.
  • Previous experience in a high-throughput, client-focused environment is preferred.
  • Ability to work Monday to Friday.
