Geographic Information Officer

A local council in the east is seeking a skilled GIS Specialist to join their Information Technology team on a temporary contract. This hybrid position offers flexibility with 3 days in the office and 2 days working from home.
In this role, you will play a key part in supporting the implementation, maintenance, and ongoing development of the council's Geographic Information System (GIS). You will assist in achieving corporate GIS objectives by providing training, guidance, and advice to staff, managing GIS updates, and ensuring the integrity of spatial data.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with GIS implementation, maintenance, and data management.
- Provide training, support, and advice to staff to ensure GIS tools meet service area objectives.
- Produce GIS maps, reports, and plans for internal use.
- Ensure the accuracy and integrity of spatial data, managing GIS updates from external agencies.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to achieve GIS-related objectives.
Essential Qualifications & Skills:
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Information Technology or Geospatial fields, or extensive experience in GIS.
- Knowledge and understanding of GIS and IT systems, including the management and maintenance of spatial data.
- Experience with GIS software such as MapInfo Professional and IntraMaps, and proficiency in GPS and SQL.
- Ability to train, assist, and advise staff in the GIS area to achieve individual service area objectives.
- Strong commitment to the council's ICT Strategy, with a focus on GIS-related projects and objectives.
- Working with Children Check (required).
- A current driver's license.
