About the Role
The LPN Supervisor at Loretto is responsible for assessing the individual needs of residents to ensure all personal care is maintained, medications are taken as prescribed, and the physical, mental, social, recreational and spiritual needs of residents are being provided for by the programs offered in the facility.
As a key member of our team, you will work closely with colleagues to plan and provide for the overall comfort, safety, and well-being of residents. You will monitor and supervise staff providing personal care assistance to residents, ensuring adherence to all policy and procedures to assure compliance with DOH and other pertinent regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and direct activities of Certified Home Health Aides, including activities of daily living, personal supervision, participation in social and leisure activities, and provision of companionship and emotional support to residents.
- Monitor delivery of resident care to ensure excellent customer service and quality expectations are met.
- Perform any and all functions of personal care as needed.
- Provide ongoing communication to families, residents, and medical management team to ensure appropriate notifications regarding medical conditions and updates.
- Supervise and provide care to residents who are ill, reporting any changes in condition to immediate supervisor promptly, notifying family, physicians, and others promptly.
- Ensure resident medications and supplies are available and in stock, ordering and reordering medications per physician orders.
- Maintain and monitor accurate records for narcotic substances prescribed for residents.
- Prepare physician consult sheets for medical appointments.
- Supervise and assist with processes to facilitate prompt and accurate completion of all documentation, such as MARs, medication documentation, 24-hour reports, incident reports, and task sheets.
- Attend mandatory in-services and professional development programs as required.
- Promote staff development and participation in training and in-services.
- Monitor and manage direct care staff effectiveness, participating in evaluation, coaching, and disciplinary process for Certified Home Health Aides.
- Assist in resolution strategies and implementation of plans to address resident or family complaints as they arise.
- Report safety concerns and necessary repairs to maintenance department.
- Monitor daily staffing to ensure and assign adequate staff coverage for resident care.
- Ensure smooth operation and delivery of all services, responding appropriately and/or taking action to resolve issues in the absence of other department supervisors.
- Monitor physical plant for safety, security, and effective operation.
- Understand emergency preparedness plan and can verbalize role during an event.
Job Expectations as a Supervisor
- Coordinate work of assigned group of employees, communicating work instructions, distributing, and monitoring work.
- Act as primary contact for routine issues in their area of responsibility, may be a "working supervisor" who performs same work as subordinate staff. The role focus is tactical and execution-oriented.
- Provide technical training and assistance on new equipment or procedures, assisting in ensuring employees are provided with appropriate resources.
- May provide input to employee performance and alert manager to employee performance issues.
- Promote and role-model culture of service excellence and customer service within functional area.
- Create, promote, and maintain collaborative relationships and partnerships with peers and staff throughout organization using active listening, unbiased, and non-judgmental language, and open communication style.
- Use effective communication and critical thinking skills during conflict resolution, problem-solving, decision-making, coaching, and other complex dialogues.
Qualifications
- Current New York State license in good standing as Licensed Practical Nurse or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 2 years supervisory experience in related field desired, preferably in union environment.
- High school diploma or higher education required.
- Familiarity with medical transcriptions.
- Flexible schedule.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with clients, residents, and families from diverse backgrounds who may have physical, sensory, and mental impairments.
- Strong leadership skills and ability to work collaboratively with large team.
- Able to lead, guide, and motivate others.
- Able to work efficiently under time constraints.
- Ability to promote healthy, collaborative team environment.
- Proficient in MS Office and able to learn new software rapidly.
