MMG Rosebery Mine, located in Tasmania, is an underground polymetallic base metal mine that has been a cornerstone of the Rosebery community since 1936. It is one of Tasmania's largest and longest-operating underground mines, producing concentrates of zinc, copper, lead, and gold doré. The mine supports around 500 employees and their families, emphasizing community engagement and collaborating with a variety of local businesses, thereby enhancing the economic landscape of the West Coast of Tasmania and beyond.

Our Burnie office provides employees with the flexibility to work remotely when not required on-site.

Reporting Structure

This role reports directly to the Superintendent of Metallurgy. The Process Control Engineer is essential for supporting operational activities and ensuring the highest quality of process control functionality, which is crucial for optimizing value recovery from the concentrator. Additionally, this position entails overseeing the ongoing maintenance and enhancement of the SCADA/PLC system. The role operates on a 5/2:4/3 roster and can be residential to Rosebery or DIDO from any location in Tasmania, or based at our Burnie office.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Manage the performance of the PCS system, collaborating with maintenance and IT teams to ensure system hardware availability.
  2. Work alongside the Metallurgy team to comprehend process value drivers and the recovery implications of unit operations and the overall process.
  3. Identify and implement enhancements to process control to improve circuit stability and performance.
  4. Stay informed about advancements in Processing Technology and Control technical solutions that could benefit Rosebery.
  5. Monitor process performance and execute optimization activities, including graphics modifications, tuning of process control loops, and alarm management.
  6. Ensure all modifications to the PCS adhere to Change Management protocols, maintaining system architecture and the integrity of interfaces from SCADA/historian to Mine Operating Systems.
  7. Take responsibility for control philosophy documentation and contribute to documentation management.
  8. Collaborate with other Process Control Consultants providing 24/7 support as necessary.
  9. Engage with external Process Control Support Contractors involved in both project and support roles.
  10. Provide continuous support and training to key PCS users, facilitating mentoring for processing technical staff.
Qualifications, Skills, and Competencies
  1. Comprehensive understanding of Process Control System architecture, particularly Honeywell (Experion) DCS and/or SCADA/Rockwell PLC systems, including coding.
  2. Ability to interpret electrical schematics and P&ID diagrams.
  3. Strong knowledge of process control optimization techniques, including loop tuning and alarm management.
  4. In-depth understanding of process control system architecture and the change management processes necessary to maintain it.
  5. Basic familiarity with core processes utilized in base metals concentrators, such as crushing, grinding, flotation, thickening, and dewatering, is desirable.
  6. Prior experience with DCS and PLC systems, Pi Historian, and various communication protocols like OPC, Controlnet, Devicenet, Ethernet, Modbus, Wireless, Fibre Optic, and RTU is highly regarded.
  7. Proven ability to analyze and manage processing plant control system performance, including control loop tuning and alarm management to enhance circuit operation and stability.
  8. Demonstrated experience in identifying and executing projects aimed at maximizing value recovery through process control improvements.
