Key roles and responsibilities of this position include laying pipes for storm or sanitation sewers, drains and water mains. The job involves grading trenches or culverts, positioning pipes and sealing joints.

An important aspect of the role is to determine material quantities, mark out, measure and cut as required. Additionally, aligning and positioning pipes to prepare them for welding or sealing, checking slopes for conformance to requirements using levels or lasers are critical tasks.

The ideal candidate will have a Certificate III or equivalent trade qualification/apprenticeship or at least 3 years employment in lieu of formal qualifications. A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, excellent communication skills and sound knowledge of WH&S practices are also essential.

Other key duties and responsibilities include installing and repairing sanitary and storm water sewer structures and pipe systems. Laying out pipe routes following written instructions or blueprints and coordinating layouts with supervisors are also crucial aspects of the job.
