Principal Conservation Scientist

Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled Senior Botanist to join our global network of professionals working together to leave a positive impact on the world.

This role involves delivering conservation and environmental projects across various vegetation types, with opportunities to mentor and develop others.

• Conduct field-based botanical surveys, including vegetation mapping, ecological monitoring, and threatened flora survey.
• Perform ecological impact assessments and offsetting for infrastructure projects and other initiatives.
• Design and implement monitoring programs, assess the benefits of environmental watering projects, and prepare technical reports for clients.
• Manage ecology-focused projects, leveraging your expertise in botany, ecology, and environmental science.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and build client relationships through strong communication and project management skills.
• Apply your knowledge of national and state environmental legislation and policy to ensure projects meet regulatory requirements.
• Work independently in remote locations, with flexibility to adapt to changing project needs.
• Collaborate with our national ecology service line to explore new landscapes and deliver high-quality results.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Science with a major in Botany, Ecology, or Environmental Science.
• At least 5 years of experience conducting vegetation surveys in south-east Australia.
• Strong botanical identification skills and experience using dissecting microscopes and identification keys.
• Experience undertaking Habitat Hectare assessments and VQA accreditation.
• A current full Victorian driver's license.
