Fabrication Welder Apprenticeship

Programmed, in partnership with Tweed Shire Council, is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Fabrication Welder Apprentice. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain a nationally recognized qualification and develop a strong foundation in the welding and fabrication industry.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Interpret scale-drawing dimensions to full size and establish the requirements and steps needed to complete tasks.
  • Draw accurate guidelines on metal, showing where to cut, drill, bend, and perform other types of work.
  • Cut marked metal sections using hand tools or flame cutting torches, or by setting up and operating metalworking machines.
  • Shape and bend sections and pipes using hand and machine tools, or by forging.
  • Assemble parts and structures by positioning and lining up parts and joining them by welding, bolting, or riveting.
  • Make full-size patterns, called templates, to be used when making large numbers of identical shapes.
  • Work as a team member and attend safety Toolbox Talks, contributing to the team's safety.
Requirements:
  • Competent numeracy and literacy skills.
  • Positive attitude and strong commitment to safety.
  • Current Driver's License and reliable transportation.
  • Completed Year 10 Education.
  • General Construction Induction card (White Card) prior to commencement.
  • Commitment to become trade qualified.
  • Demonstrated capacity to work as a team member and safely with a zero-harm attitude.
Work Environment:

The position is based in the Murwillumbah Depot and can be directed to work from any Council work site. You will also be required to attend TAFE one day per week in Lismore/Alstonville NSW (Wollongbar TAFE). Travel assistance may be applicable through VTAS funding.
