Job Overview

As a Wood Machinist at Workforce Australia for Individuals, you will play a crucial role in the manufacturing and assembly of high-quality wooden components used in various construction projects. This includes crafting custom wood pieces for residential homes, commercial buildings, and bespoke projects. You will be responsible for operating and maintaining woodworking machinery, ensuring all products meet our rigorous quality standards.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Operate Woodworking Machinery:
    • Set up, adjust, and operate a range of woodworking machines, including but not limited to CNC routers, panel saws, planers, jointers, and sanders.
    • Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications to determine cutting, shaping, and assembling processes.
  2. Manufacture Wooden Components:
    • Produce a variety of wooden components such as doors, windows, frames, mouldings, cabinets, and bespoke furniture pieces.
    • Ensure all pieces are crafted to exact specifications and high-quality standards.
  3. Quality Control:
    • Inspect finished products to ensure they meet the required quality standards and specifications.
    • Make adjustments as necessary to achieve the desired finish and fit.
  4. Machine Maintenance:
    • Perform regular maintenance and cleaning of machinery to ensure efficient operation and prevent breakdowns.
    • Report any issues with equipment or materials to the supervisor promptly.
  5. Safety Compliance:
    • Adhere to all workplace safety standards and guidelines to maintain a safe working environment.
    • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow safe work practices at all times.
  6. Material Management:
    • Select appropriate types and grades of wood for each project, considering factors like grain, texture, and durability.
    • Manage inventory of materials and tools, ensuring adequate supplies for ongoing and upcoming projects.
  7. Collaboration:
    • Work closely with carpenters, builders, and other team members to coordinate the delivery and installation of finished products.
    • Communicate effectively with project managers and other stakeholders to ensure project timelines and quality standards are met.
Qualifications and Skills
  • A relevant AQF Cert III or IV, or at least 3 years of work experience as a Wood Machinist or similar role in a construction environment may substitute for the formal qualifications.
  • Must be proficient in operating and maintaining a variety of woodworking machinery and possess a strong understanding of woodworking techniques and processes.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve machinery issues and production challenges.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment.
