Strategic Leader Opportunity

This role presents a chance for an accomplished executive to provide visionary leadership to a prominent Traditional Owner organisation. Reporting to the Board, the successful candidate will be responsible for driving organisational performance and governance, while safeguarding the rights and interests of the Bunurong people.

  • Lead the organisation's operations, including strategic planning, financial management, and compliance.
  • Represent the interests of Traditional Owners, building strong relationships with government agencies, regulators, partners, and community stakeholders.
  • Drive operational excellence, ensuring sustainability and growth through effective planning, risk management, and stakeholder engagement.

The ideal candidate will possess exceptional leadership skills, commercial acumen, and cultural understanding. They will have a proven track record in executive-level positions, with experience in community and/or government services, ideally within Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation (ACCO) leadership.

Key requirements include:

  • Senior executive experience in community and/or government services, with knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and heritage matters.
  • Proven success in building strong stakeholder relationships and managing potential conflict between prominent community members.
  • Strong commercial and operational management skills, including funding oversight, budgeting, and financial reporting.

Job Requirements

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) will be responsible for:

  • Leading the organisation's operations, governance, compliance, and financial management.
  • Representing the interests of Traditional Owners and building strong relationships with government agencies, regulators, partners, and community stakeholders.
  • Driving organisational performance, planning, and risk management to ensure sustainability and growth.
  • Promoting cultural integrity and safeguarding the rights and interests of the Bunurong people.
  • Building a high-performing, culturally safe, and values-driven workplace.
Requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Demonstrated minimum 2-years senior executive experience in community and/or government services, ideally with knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and heritage matters.
  • Proven success in building strong stakeholder relationships and effectively managing potential conflict between prominent community members.
  • Strong commercial and operational management skills, including funding oversight, budgeting, and financial reporting.
  • Demonstrated vision, strategic thinking, and operational planning in the creation and implementation of plans to achieve desired organisational outcomes.
  • Comprehensive understanding of governance and leadership, including the respective roles of the Board, the Chief Executive, management, staff, and stakeholder partners.
  • Proven ability to lead and manage teams, including mentoring and empowering staff to build a culture of engagement, accountability, and success.
