Job Title: Community Engagement Specialist

 

  • The Role:

Settlement Services International (SSI) is a community-based organisation and social business that supports newcomers and Australians to achieve their full potential. We take an integrated approach to help everyone thrive within their community and the wider society.

We are seeking a skilled professional to play a crucial role in our community engagement initiatives. This position will work under the Community Relations Manager to deliver key programs, including the Community Action for Multicultural Society (CAMS) contract in the Redlands and the Settlement Engagement and Transition Support (SETS) Community Capacity Building activities across Brisbane and Moreton Bay South.

  • Implement and manage CAMS and SETS Community Capacity Building activities in designated regions, ensuring all deliverables are met and outcomes achieved.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with community stakeholders, partner organisations, and government agencies to enhance program effectiveness and community engagement.
  • Co-design and deliver community development initiatives, workshops, and events.
  • Work collaboratively in a team of 5-6 community development professionals and with other internal and external partners.
  • Submit reports and documentation in a timely manner, ensuring they are accurate and of high quality.
  • Identify opportunities for program improvement and expansion, contributing to the strategic development of SSI's community engagement efforts.
  • Represent SSI at key events and meetings, committees, conferences, and public forums, promoting and improving perceptions of SSI and its programs within the community.
Requirements for Success
  • Five years' equivalent experience and/or Tertiary qualifications in Community Development or relevant Discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with marginalised communities and an understanding of settlement issues relevant to people from a CALD background.
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in undertaking community development in challenging areas with minimum support structure for CALD communities.
  • Demonstrated skills in partnership development and relationship management.
  • Strong Knowledge and understanding of project management and community engagement strategies in the multicultural sector, including relevant government policies and programs.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to deal constructively with complex and sometimes conflicting situations.
  • Highly developed advocacy and negotiation skills to represent SSI professionally and positively to government agencies and other external bodies.
  • Policy formulation, development, and implementation experience with demonstrated strong negotiation and decision-making skills.
  • Proficiency in using MS office, databases, and communication technologies.
  • Demonstrated experience in engaging with women, men, and families into programs.
