About the Role

An exciting opportunity awaits a dedicated Secondary Visual Arts educator to join a dynamic school community in Melbourne's Western suburbs. Joining a small team, you'll teach students in years 7-9 in a full-time or part-time (0.8) role in a consistent and supportive school environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Curriculum Development: Develop and implement a comprehensive Visual Art curriculum aligned with educational standards and guidelines under the Victorian Curriculum, covering various artistic techniques, mediums, and concepts.
  • Lesson Planning: Create engaging and differentiated lesson plans that cater to diverse learning styles and abilities, incorporating hands-on art projects, demonstrations, and discussions to enhance students' understanding and appreciation of visual art.
  • Studio Management: Manage art studio facilities and materials, ensuring a safe and organized environment for artistic exploration and experimentation.
  • Art Instruction: Teach students proper techniques for using art supplies, equipment, and tools.
  • Art Subjects: Teach a range of art-related subjects, including drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, ceramics, photography, and digital media, to secondary students. Provide instruction in art history, aesthetics, and critique.
  • Assessment and Evaluation: Design and administer assessments, critiques, and portfolio reviews to evaluate students' artistic skills, creativity, and conceptual understanding.
  • Student Exhibitions: Organize and curate student art exhibitions, showcases, and displays to celebrate students' artistic achievements and promote their work within the school community and beyond.
  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Collaborate with colleagues in the Visual Arts department and across other subject areas to create interdisciplinary projects, thematic units, and cross-curricular connections that integrate art with other academic disciplines.

Requirements:

  • Current VIT registration
  • Have unrestricted working rights in Australia
  • Demonstrate previous experience in teaching Visual Arts in Australia
  • Ability to provide contact details for two education-based references from within the last 5 years (student-teacher mentors are acceptable).
