About the Role

The Senior Leasing and Commercial Attorney will oversee legal operational matters and risks within our retail and professional solutions operations in Australia and New Zealand. They will handle a wide range of work including property and general commercial law matters, working closely with senior management and other internal and external stakeholders.

The emphasis of this role is on Property and Leasing, namely handling legal enquiries, reviews, and issues related to commercial, retail, and residential properties. The role will also support the general commercial operations of our ANZ business.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the negotiation and preparation of commercial, retail, and residential lease documents on a portfolio of 700+ sites across Australia and New Zealand.
  • Advise on a broad range of general commercial legal matters, including the review of marketing materials and advertising campaigns.
  • Review and draft a broad range of commercial agreements, including for the procurement of goods and services, and the wholesale supply of goods to customers.
  • Advise on disputes and complaints, including customer issues.
  • Foster strong collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement within the legal team and wider business.
  • Work with our global legal team on a range of legal issues and global projects.
  • Manage external legal advisers while controlling spend.
Requirements for Success
  • A Law Degree, minimum Bachelor's level.
  • An unrestricted Australian Practising Certificate.
  • A minimum of 5 years experience within a reputable Australian firm or relevant in-house experience.
  • Leasing and property experience is critical; retail leasing experience will be an advantage.
  • An in-depth understanding of the Australian retail leasing legislation.
  • Broad commercial and consumer law experience, including ACL.
  • Able to work on a large range of complex matters and prioritise accordingly.
