Job Summary:

The Waste Collection Assistant will play a vital role in ensuring the safe and efficient collection of solid waste materials from residential areas. This position requires a team player who can work closely with drivers and other employees to maintain high standards of service.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Collect and Load Waste: Collect solid waste and recyclable materials from customer premises and load them into the rear or side of the waste collection vehicle.
  2. Sort and Compact Waste: Sort recyclables and deposit materials into the appropriate compartments in the collection truck, and operate equipment to compact trash and materials.
  3. Assist Drivers: Assist drivers in safe vehicle operation by directing them in backing up and maneuvering in close spaces.
  4. Audit and Report: Audit the waste collection vehicle for proper equipment and report any customer-related problems to the driver immediately.
  5. Identify and Remove Prohibited Items: Identify, tag, and notify the driver of prohibited waste items and remove them from the waste cart or can.
  6. Follow Safety Protocols: Follow all safety and equipment checks and precautions in the performance of all duties, and comply with federal, state, local, and company rules on safety and vehicle operation.
  7. Improve Routing Efficiencies: Work closely with supervisors to improve routing efficiencies and maintain predetermined route quality standards.
  8. Maintain Vehicle Cleanliness: Assist drivers in keeping the interior cab and exterior of the vehicle clean.
  9. Perform Additional Duties: Assist with sorting, cleaning carts, cleaning the warehouse, stacking pallets/gaylords, and other duties as required or requested by management.

Requirements:

  1. Education and Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) desired, but not required. One to three months of related experience and/or training desired, but not required.
  2. Driver's License: Valid driver's license preferred, but not required.
  3. Meet Safety Criteria: Must be able to meet relevant criteria for safety-sensitive functions according to Company standards.
