This role is ideal for individuals seeking meaningful work that combines a passion for nature with a sense of community.
We are looking for a skilled and passionate individual to join our team as an Indigenous Eco-Landscaper. In this role, you will have the opportunity to design, install, and maintain beautiful and earth-friendly gardens in private and public spaces across the City of Toronto.
About the Job- You will be part of a dynamic team responsible for designing, installing, and maintaining beautiful and earth-friendly gardens.
- Your work will include planting native plant species, digging rain gardens, and grading areas.
- You will also be responsible for disconnecting downspouts, redirecting water to rain barrels or rain gardens, laying compost, mulch, soil, and installing other materials like gravel, rocks, and liners.
- Maintenance of gardens includes removing weeds, trimming plants, watering, and cleaning debris.
- You will perform tool upkeep and maintenance, collect and separate litter from BIA worksites, and provide professional customer service.
- Planting and maintaining native plant species, including bulbs, flowers, shrubs, and trees;
- Digging rain gardens and grading areas;
- Disconnecting downspouts and redirecting water to rain barrels or rain gardens;
- Laying compost, mulch, soil, and installing other materials like gravel, rocks, and liners;
- Maintaining gardens by removing weeds, trimming plants, watering, and cleaning debris;
- Performing tool upkeep and maintenance;
- Collecting and separating litter from BIA worksites;
- Providing professional customer service and participating in weekly reporting and team meetings;
- Preferring candidates with 'G' or 'G2' Class driver's license;
- Able to withstand up to 7 hours of physically demanding labor;
- Adaptable to varying tasks, conditions, and locations;
- Willing to work outdoors in changing weather (heat, rain, cold);
- Responsible, punctual, detail-oriented, reliable, and flexible;
- Manual dexterity, hand-eye coordination, and attention to detail;
- Good interpersonal skills with the ability to work well in a team setting and provide professional customer service;
- Interest in horticulture, plant identification, and ecological gardening;
- Some experience in residential, commercial, or community organic/ecological gardening and landscaping is helpful;
- Work in varying weather conditions and spend extended periods outdoors, usually 8 am- 4 pm;
- Repetitive tasks;
- Handling of heavy loads;
- Physically demanding - bending, crouching, kneeling, sitting, standing, walking, digging, shoveling, raking;
