The Opportunity

We are seeking an enthusiastic Lawyer looking for an alternative career path as a Conflicts Solicitor on a 12-month fixed-term contract based in our Sydney office. This role offers a varied and challenging experience using your legal skills set in a strategic, commercial setting and provides insight into the firm's global clients and sectors.

The Conflicts Team falls under the New Business and Enterprise Risk Department and manages conflicts of interest and information barriers globally. We play a key role in shaping firm strategy by liaising with Sector Lead Partners, Regional/Global Heads of Practice, and Business Development to ensure compliance with professional obligations and commercial fit.

Full training will be provided for this role, so no previous conflicts experience is required. Some key responsibilities include:

  • Advising on complex legal and commercial conflicts problems and collaborating with Partners and staff on conflicts issues and queries;
  • Ensuring compliance with global sanctions and Anti-Money Laundering obligations;
  • Reviewing, drafting, and advising on conflict provisions in engagement letters, policies, and client agreements.
Requirements

To succeed in this role, you must be:

  • Admitted to practice as a Solicitor in Australia or another jurisdiction where HSF operates;
  • Able to demonstrate 2-4 years' post-admission experience with excellent research, technical, and analytical skills;
  • Proactive with adaptability to competing demands in a fast-paced environment;
  • Interested in working outside traditional private practice in an alternative career;
  • Excellent communicator with strong team collaboration skills;
  • Good commercial awareness.
