Coal Geologist

We are seeking a highly skilled Coal Geologist to join our team at Byerwen Open Pit Coal Mine. This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic individual with a proven track record of experience in coal geology.

• Conduct detailed geological logging, soil and rock sampling, and geological mapping to assess coal seams, stratigraphy, and mineralogy, supporting resource estimation and mine planning.
• Work closely with site management and mine geologists to optimise coal extraction operations, minimise geological risks, and ensure accurate integration of geological data into mine planning and production scheduling.
• Utilise geological databases and software to create 3D coal resource models, conduct resource estimation, and ensure compliance with industry standards for reporting (e.g., JORC Code) to support mine planning and reserve estimation.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• A Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Geology or other relevant qualifications.
• Minimum 3 years experience in coal geology with a demonstrated ability to design and execute geological work programs.
• Knowledge of structural geology and coal quality.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently in regional and remote locations.
• Excellent planning and organisational skills with a proven ability to manage multiple deadlines and projects simultaneously.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Software skills using data collection software and MS Office.
• Familiarity with at least one of the following geological databases; Geobank, acQuire, LogCheck or TaskManager.
