Remote Census Community Liaison Specialist

We are seeking a skilled and experienced professional to fill the role of Remote Census Engagement Manager. As part of our team, you will play a key role in maximizing participation in the Census across remote regions in Australia.
Your primary responsibility will be to connect the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) with stakeholders and members of the community in these areas, assisting Census operational teams in achieving their outcomes through targeted engagement activities.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who has experience working with or advocating for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, as well as the ability to engage with a range of service providers and develop strong working relationships.
The successful candidate will have a sound understanding of the local area, be able to read and navigate maps, and possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
In this role, you will be responsible for:
- Planning, coordinating and delivering Census engagement activities for your assigned region
- Maintaining a record of your engagement activities via our ABS Stakeholder Management System
- Developing, updating and reviewing engagement plans for your area of responsibility
- Promoting participation in the Census through community visits, promotional activities and presentations
- Connecting with the community, establishing networks and maintaining those relationships
- Working collaboratively with other Census and ABS staff in your area, providing important cultural considerations and/or area-level intelligence
- Gathering support for the Census from Local Government and community organisations, as well as key service providers
- Providing in-field assistance when required for Census operational activities
