Team Dynamics
Given the vast scale of our operations, navigating the regulatory landscape is inherently intricate. Our Legal team serves as trusted advisors, leveraging their comprehensive understanding of our objectives and values to deliver practical and commercially viable legal guidance.
Role Responsibilities - Part-Time
In this role, you will steer the strategic management of litigated claims, focusing on enhancing outcomes for common law and complex statutory claims. Your efforts will aim to mitigate workers' compensation liabilities, safeguard our reputation, and lessen the effects of workplace injuries.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Maintaining an up-to-date understanding of compliance in workers' compensation and trends in common law/lump sum settlements across relevant jurisdictions.
- Overseeing litigation cases, providing regular updates and outcomes to internal stakeholders.
- Building and managing relationships with the legal panel to achieve desired results.
- Facilitating organizational learning from each case to improve future practices.
- Enhancing the claims team's ability to identify claims with legal implications early and manage them effectively.
- Articulating and comprehending state legislative and regulatory requirements related to workers' compensation and self-insurance.
- Taking full responsibility for the management of workers' compensation litigation claims, with support for ongoing payments and team interactions.
- Developing a deep understanding of each Coles Group business unit's operations and needs while fostering strong relationships with key stakeholders.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Demonstrated experience in managing litigated claims within a relevant legislative framework.
- Strong background in workers' compensation or personal injury law.
- Knowledge of key regulatory and statutory insurance obligations.
- Experience in risk management practices.
- Team management experience is highly desirable.
- A background in defendant or insurance law is also advantageous.
- A minimum of five years of post-admission experience as a lawyer.
