Advanced Mental Health Nursing Specialist

The Northern Adelaide Local Health Network is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Registered Mental Health Nurse to fill the position of Nurse Consultant - Consultation Liaison. This exciting opportunity will enable you to make a significant impact on the lives of patients and contribute to the advancement of mental health nursing.
About the JobThis challenging role involves providing education and advice to general nurses regarding the provision of nursing care to patients experiencing complex mental health problems in the general hospital environment. Your expertise will be invaluable in guiding non-pharmacological approaches to agitation and challenging behaviours, promoting a least restrictive environment, and reducing the risk of injury to patients and staff.
As a Nurse Consultant - Consultation Liaison, your key responsibilities will include:
- Assessing and managing complex presentations where nursing staff require assistance or education on approaches to care provision.
- Providing guidance on therapeutic approaches, such as therapeutic use of self, behaviour activation, positive reinforcement, and acknowledgement.
- Liaising and facilitating transfer and communication between general and mental health nursing teams regarding nursing suitability and patient transfers.
- Developing and maintaining constructive working relationships with senior nursing teams across mental health and general wards.
In this dynamic role, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of integrated mental health and general nursing care plans for patients and work collaboratively with general nursing staff to achieve best practice outcomes.
About YouTo be successful in this role, you must be a registered or eligible nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and hold a current practicing certificate. You should also have experience in mental health nursing and a strong understanding of the principles of consultation liaison psychiatry.
