About the Role

The Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) is seeking a skilled and highly motivated Rail Equipment Engineer (Mobile Plant) to join our National Plant Team in Newcastle, NSW. In this newly created, hands-on role, you will play a pivotal part in ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of our mobile plant, road rail vehicles, and rolling stock assets.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Investigate and resolve operational performance and maintenance reliability challenges with new and existing equipment to promote safety, cost efficiency, and productivity.
  2. Coordinate and conduct operational and network interface performance tests and commissioning activities.
  3. Ensure the compliance of new and existing mobile plant, road rail vehicles, and the rolling stock (work train) fleet with workplace health and safety, regulatory, and technical performance standards.
  4. Support the roll-out of a multi-million dollar, 10-year strategic plant and equipment replacement plan.
  5. Develop, review, and refine plant processes, standards, guidelines, and forms to enhance safety and maintenance performance.
  6. Analyze and review engineering reports, calculations, and drawings for mechanical designs and modifications.
  7. Collect, monitor, and analyze data related to fleet operational and maintenance performance to drive improvement opportunities.
  8. Identify and evaluate opportunities for the purchase of innovative machinery to improve plant mechanization, productivity, safety, and reduce operating costs.
  9. Lead, coach, and mentor plant maintenance staff to ensure team goals are met.
  10. Participate in projects and undertake other duties as requested.

About You

To ensure success in this position, applicants will be able to demonstrate:

Essential Selection Criteria

  1. Tertiary qualifications in Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  2. A well-developed and structured approach to problem solving.
  3. Demonstrated ability to work in a team, assist, and promote the team, and drive effective outcomes in a fast-changing environment.
  4. A current Class C driver's license.
  5. Recent graduates who can demonstrate a high degree of mechanical aptitude and problem-solving abilities are encouraged to apply.

Desirable Selection Criteria

  1. Working knowledge of mobile plant-related workplace health and safety regulations.
  2. Experience in major railway plant & rolling stock maintenance and operations.
  3. Knowledge of the railway operating environment and applicable engineering standards.
