Opportunity to join a 5-10 year project building defense vessels.
The role involves fabricating, building and welding navy vessels and offshore patrol boats. Key tasks include flux and ceramic welding, heavy structural fabrication, confined space welding of the hull, structure and internals of defense ships. The team will be working on building up to 15 boats in the project. Responsibilities include fitting up and tack welding steel components to Defence standards, fitting lifting lugs, bracing and supports, cutting, notching, drilling, reaming, shaping and forming steel components.
Working hours are 49 hours per week with a Monday to Thursday schedule from 5:50am to 4:20pm and Fridays from 5:50am to 3:30pm. Saturday shifts will be introduced in the new year from 6:00am to 12:00pm.
A competitive hourly rate is offered, starting at $55 for the first 7.2 hours, then $82.50 for the next 2 hours and $110 for all additional hours worked per day.
This is a long-term opportunity with a stable work environment and the chance to contribute to building New Zealand's defense capabilities.
The successful candidate will require skills in flux core welding, Australian work rights, ability to pass a weld test and own tooling for the trade.
Beyond the job requirements, the role offers weekly pay runs, free on-site parking, paid inductions and weld tests, overtime rates for Saturday shifts and potential provision of additional tooling and equipment once permanent employment is confirmed.
