Occupational Therapist in Rural Settings

The Australian Government's rural workforce capacity agenda is supported by the Rural Locum Assistance Program. The program delivers essential healthcare services to rural and remote regions. We are seeking experienced and registered occupational therapists for short-term placements in rural and remote communities across Australia.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assess clients' functional capacity and develop individualised treatment plans that support independence.
  • Deliver therapy that supports clients to achieve greater independence in their daily lives.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support continuity of care.
  • Provide assessments and interventions in diverse environments, including aged care facilities, hospitals, and community settings.
  • Educate clients, families, and support workers on therapeutic strategies.
  • Document clinical findings accurately and maintain confidentiality.
  • Adapt quickly to varied clinical settings and community needs in rural and remote locations.

Requirements:

  • Unrestricted registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency as an occupational therapist.
  • A minimum of two years' full-time equivalent clinical experience as an occupational therapist.
  • Evidence of at least 250 hours of relevant clinical practice within the past year.
  • Current Basic Life Support or Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation certification with a practical assessment component.
