ROLE OVERVIEW

The Senior Risk and Compliance Advisor - Cyber Security Consultant plays a pivotal role in driving ongoing enhancements in cyber security governance, risk management, and compliance. This position entails providing expert consulting services to key Australian Federal Government clients, formulating cyber security policies and strategies, and collaborating with a talented team to bolster client security frameworks.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Engage with internal teams to identify and address security vulnerabilities.
  • Perform compliance evaluations against government-wide and industry benchmarks.
  • Develop threat models customized to the organization's specific context and relevant systems.
  • Draft and refine security policies and operational procedures.
  • Support the enhancement of cyber security awareness and practices to safeguard systems and data.
  • Lead a team to achieve project goals within defined timelines and budgets.
  • Facilitate the automation of data collection and reporting services for cyber security metrics.
  • Collaborate with senior stakeholders to fulfill privacy, security, compliance, and financial objectives through effective security methodologies.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Must be an Australian citizen with an AGSVA security clearance (minimum NV1).
  • Over 5 years of experience in delivering cyber security solutions across diverse projects.
  • In-depth knowledge of cyber security standards and frameworks (e.g., ISM, PSPF, Essential 8, NIST, ISO 27001/27002).
  • Proven leadership capabilities with a track record of effective collaboration across various clients and team members.
  • Experience in conducting risk assessments and compliance activities within ICT sectors.
  • Solid understanding of governance principles related to cyber security.
  • Strong work ethic with the ability to manage time effectively and deliver results as part of a dynamic team.
  • Professional demeanor with a commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, capable of conveying technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience in preparing tenders and technical documentation.
  • Demonstrated success in leading high-performing, multidisciplinary cyber security teams and mentoring junior consultants.
  • Proven ability in business development and generating new, profitable opportunities.

ADDITIONAL PREFERENCES

  • Experience with cyber security reporting and metrics at the board level.
  • Engagement experience with senior Federal Government representatives.
  • Hands-on experience with a wide array of security deliverables.
  • Understanding of technical concepts and support for IT systems.
  • Consulting experience in the cyber security domain.
  • A network of professional contacts within the cyber security field.
