Job Description:

An esteemed Local Government organisation seeks a seasoned Safety and Compliance Specialist for an initial 3-month contract, offering the chance to drive impactful OHS projects and initiatives that ensure employee well-being and community safety.

Key Responsibilities:
  • OHS Advisory Support: Provide informed guidance to managers and staff on OHS matters to promote a safe workplace culture.
  • Risk Management Strategy: Develop tailored strategies to identify, assess, and mitigate workplace hazards and risks.
  • Policy & Compliance Assurance: Ensure adherence to Council's OHS Management System, policies, and legislative requirements through audits and reviews.
  • Training and Development: Design and deliver engaging OHS training programs to staff and stakeholders.
  • Incident Investigation: Conduct thorough investigations of workplace incidents, identifying root causes and recommending preventive measures.
  • Data Analysis: Analyse OHS data to identify trends and develop proactive solutions.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Collaborate with internal and external partners, including WorkSafe Victoria, unions, and professional bodies.
  • Continuous Improvement: Contribute to the development and maintenance of OHS policies, procedures, and systems, promoting best practices.
Requirements:
  • Tertiary qualification in OHS or related field (minimum Diploma level).
  • Significant experience as an OHS professional or in a similar specialist role.
  • Comprehensive understanding of OHS legislation, regulations, and best practices.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and project management skills.
  • Desirable: Lead Auditor qualification, Cert IV in Workplace Training & Assessment, or experience in injury/WorkCover claims management.
