Job Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled media professional to lead a talented team in developing and implementing impactful media and digital strategies that drive meaningful change for Queenslanders.

This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned Digital Media Manager to head up a high-performing team within the Strategic Communications function at Queensland Government. As the leader, you will be responsible for shaping and executing media plans, managing relationships with media outlets and internal stakeholders, and monitoring the media landscape to identify risks and opportunities.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of leading and mentoring a high-performing team, developing and implementing proactive media planning and issue/crisis communication responses, managing relationships with media outlets, journalists, and key internal stakeholders, and monitoring the media and digital environment to identify risks and opportunities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and mentor a high-performing media and digital team
  • Develop and implement proactive media planning and issue/crisis communication responses
  • Manage relationships with media outlets, journalists, and key internal stakeholders
  • Monitor the media and digital environment to identify risks and opportunities
  • Deliver or support integrated campaigns across media, digital, social, and stakeholder channels
  • Write and review high-quality content, including speeches, media releases, briefs, and editorials
  • Manage the out-of-hours media service and provide media training for executives and technical spokespeople as required
  • Embed a strong risk-based model for workload, team resourcing, and communications delivery
  • Contribute to a team culture of accountability, action, and strategic alignment

Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Proven media expertise with a strong risk lens and stakeholder judgment
  • Experience in public sector, regulatory, or enforcement environments (highly regarded)
  • Deep understanding of reputational risk, crisis management, and media strategy
  • Ability to lead, coach, and build a resilient, high-performing team
  • Strong digital communication capability across platforms, including social, web, video, and emerging channels
  • Comfortable managing complexity, ambiguity, and political sensitivities
