Editorial Director Role

The role of Editorial Director is a high-profile position within our organization. This individual will lead the editorial output, driving the quality and performance of our content team.

We're seeking an experienced Editorial Director to spearhead our editorial efforts, overseeing the development and delivery of high-quality content across multiple platforms. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in editorial leadership, with expertise in managing multidisciplinary teams and fostering a culture of excellence.

This role requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders at all levels. A passion for storytelling, combined with a keen eye for detail, is essential for success in this position.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive high-quality content execution across site, social, and emerging platforms by leading the editorial team and aligning delivery with strategy
  • Oversee a team of writers, collaborate with SEO, commercial, and product stakeholders
  • Provide actionable feedback that supports both performance and professional development
  • Oversee editorial calendar, delivery cadence, and daily editorial workflow
  • Manage freelance and contributor rosters to maintain output, consistency, and quality
  • Optimise content based on performance data, SEO insights, and editorial best practice
  • Collaborate with SEO, social, commercial, and product stakeholders to align output with performance, revenue, and amplification priorities
  • Work closely with the Content Lead to execute against growth strategy
  • Champion content that reflects brand voice, tone, and user needs while fostering a high-performance, collaborative editorial culture
  • Monitor competitor activity and emerging trends to inform content direction and opportunities
  • Represent editorial in stakeholder meetings and standups
Requirements and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you'll need:

Proven experience: At least 5+ years in editorial leadership or people management in a digital-first environment

Excellent people management skills: Knows how to extract the best from a multidisciplinary team, manage performance, and give clear, motivating feedback

Willingness to challenge: Willing to have tricky conversations, coach writers, and support career progression

Opportunity spotting and drive: Ability to inspire a team and identify opportunities for growth and improvement

Solutions-oriented mindset: Fast-paced, quick thinker who can adapt to changing situations and find solutions under pressure

Demonstrated results: Proven ability to grow audience and revenue through editorial excellence

Broad content expertise: Experience with writing, editing, video, and social content creation

Content planning and coordination skills: Strong ability to plan and coordinate content across multiple channels

High editorial standards: Passion for delivering high-quality content that meets brand voice and tone

Stakeholder relationship-building: Comfortable creating video, appearing on-camera, and advocating for the brand in internal and external settings

Technical skills: Familiarity with CMS platforms and creative tools like Canva and Monday
