Job Title: Public Defender

About this role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced public defender to lead our team in complex trials and sentences in the Supreme, District and Magistrates Courts.

The ideal candidate will have outstanding written and oral advocacy skills, expert knowledge of criminal and civil law, and experience in leading teams and managing responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of barristers in complex trials and sentences in the courts mentioned above.
  • Provide advice and representation in family and civil law matters.
  • Model the values of respect, quality and accountability.
  • Maintain a high standard of practice through governance and risk management.

Requirements:

  • Admitted or eligible for immediate admission as a barrister in Queensland.
  • Eligible for a current practicing certificate and entry in the High Court Register of Practitioners.

About You:

  • You must possess excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Expertise in handling complex cases with multiple stakeholders is necessary.
  • Leadership skills with the ability to manage large teams effectively is required.
